The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance presents MFA I Concert, February 25 and 26, at 8:00 p.m. in the Sharon Disney Lund Theater on the CalArts Campus. The MFA I Concert features the choreography of three CalArts Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance MFA candidates, Rachel Boyajian, Lisa D. Long, and Natalie Metzger.
Rachel Boyajian creates an abstract work based on the systems and developments of the human brain. Her piece involves collaboration with Costume Designer Silvanne Park, and Lighting Designer, Anna Martin. Performers are Amanda Castro, Carina Couture, Jay Jackson, Princess Romero, Michael Tomlin III, and Michelle Sagarminaga.
Lisa D. Long develops movement based on gesture that progresses into voluminous movement to evoke senses of being held – by community, self, friends, or a loved one. The music is live with musicians improvising on singing bowls combined with a static track of ordinary sounds that is finally joined by a live drummer. For her piece, Long collaborates with musician/composer Ellen Reid, Lighting Designer R. Christopher Stokes, and Costume Designer, Jenny Foldenauer. Performers are Lauren Frias, Lorrin Hilton, Bianca Mendoza, Zoe Nelson, Jose Trujillo, and Stephanie Zaletel.
In Still, On the Ground, Natalie Metzger explores a dreamscape of fears and curiosities that we experience in childhood and how they manifest themselves in our adulthood. In Still, Metzger works with Set Designer, Gregory Frank to create a symbolic anchor for psychological exploration through movement. Metzger’s collaboration includes Lighting Designer Carla Linton, Costume Designer Erin Brewster, Assistant Set Designer Madalyn Rokisky-Ring, and Set Constructionists Joe Coppola and Colin Vranizan. Performers are Eko, Tarren Johnson, Lindsey Lollie, Lindsay Newton, and Erica Lyn Peña.
Admission is free. To reserve tickets, visit: MFA I Concert
