WESTERN ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES’ Accrediting Commission Visit CalArts
Representatives from the Western
Association of Schools and Colleges’ Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges
and Universities (WASC Senior) will be at CalArts from February 10 to February
12, 2010 as part of CalArts Capacity and Preparatory Review (CPR).
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges’ Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities (WASC Senior) evaluates the quality and effectiveness of colleges and universities offering the baccalaureate degree and above in California, Hawaii, Guam and the Pacific Basin. WASC Senior is reviewed and functions with the recognition of the US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. It is one of six regional accreditors in the United States who have the authority to grant institutional accreditation. National accrediting organizations, such as the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, typically cover a specific subject area or professional emphasis. Institutions, like CalArts, have one regional and multiple national accrediting agencies.
*CalArts Mission Statement: California Institute of the Arts educates artists in a learning environment founded on artmaking excellence, creative experimentation, critical reflection and the diversity of voices. To advance the exploration of new forms and expressions, CalArts urges collaboration and reciprocity among artists, artistic disciplines and cultural traditions--both on campus and in ongoing engagement with communities near and far.

STUDENT CHOICE CONCERT
February 11 and 12, 2010 at 7 p.m. Sharon Disney Lund Theater
The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance presents Student
Choice Concert, a student dance concert, February 11 and 12, at 7:00 p.m.
in the Sharon Disney Lund Theater on the CalArts Campus. This evening of
dance offers new works by emerging student choreographers who push the edge of
their own creative boundaries.
Three weeks into the spring semester, School of
Dance students chose the eleven pieces from an audition selection of fifteen
student choreographed dances.
Guided by improvisation and organic development,
student choreographers are encouraged to break-through their own limitations to
create original work that reflects their creative spirit and intention. Through
rhythm and risk, this year’s concert proves to be a highly athletic
investigation into new frontiers of performance.
The Student Choice Dance Concert features the choreography of twelve School of Dance students, Princess M. Romero, Zoë Nelson, Michael Tomlin III, Lindsey Lollie, Carina Couture, Ashley Handel and Julia Romanskaya, Jamie Pea, Tarren Johnson, Ariana Daub, Kerrie Schroeder, and Lindsay Newton.
